Friday Findings: So Very Pretty in Pink

Well... the Fourth of July weekend is upon us, and while everyone's thinking Red White and Blue, I'm sitting here thinking about Pink. I guess that's because its one of my favorite colors. I also love its girly look and have fun wearing pink on the beach when the weather is great. So I figure, what better weekend to share my love of Pink with you than this one? All week, I've been shopping around for some pretty pink floral jewelry to wear to some upcoming summer pool parties and picnics this month, and here are some of my favorites:

Hibiscus Pink Scrabble Tile Pendant
HomeStudio

I've noticed that Scrabble Tile Pendants have beeen popping up everywhere the last few years, and I thought this reused game tile pendant had such a fresh-for-summer look! It features a decoupaged image of a Hibiscus flower -- a perfect pink for a summer's day lounge on the beach! It comes on a small sterling silver bail and is sealed with a non-waterproof glass like finish. The Scrabble Tile Pendant in Hibiscus (Pink) is available from HomeStudio in Palm Desert, CA.

Handmade Polymer Clay Itty Bitty Heart Puffy Pendant
Beadazzle Me: Polymer Clay Beads & Pendants

I sometimes find it incredibly hard to believe that some of these talented Polymer Clay crafters out there aren't really working with glass. For example, can you believe that the high-polished finish on this shiny pendant is really created from Fimo Clay? I certainly can't! I love this pendant's luscious shades of hot and bubblegum pink, orange, peach, lemon, lime that has been interspersed with black and white accents. Perfect for summer fun! This Itty Bitty Heart Puffy Pendant is available for Beadazzle Me in Bradenton, FL.

The Cady Necklace

RachelleD

Vintage pieces are always charming, eye-catching and fun. And, I adore this playful statement necklace which features a hot-pink and black vintage enamel flower pendant with a sophisticated black Czech crystal center. It's linked by hand to elegant black Czech crystal beads on a 16 1/2 inch antiqued silver chain and closes with a silver-plated clasp. The Cady Necklace is available from RachelleD in Harlingen, TX.

Cherry Blossom Dangle Earrings
Button Boutique: Adorable Button Goodies

Fun fabrics are super cute and I thought these light weight dangle earrings would be perfect for you mom's who want to wear something feminine, but light enough to ensure your ears are protected from the curious grabbing hands of your little ones. These earrings feature a colorful Japanese Sakura crimson colored Japanese Sakura fabric with delicate pink blossoms. The Cherry Blossom Dangle Earrings are attached to surgical steel fish hooks, or on special request they can be attached to surgical steel posts by Button Boutique in Montgomery, IL.

Before I go, be sure to congratulate Posh Mama Bunny, who is the winner of these Minimalist Omega Hoop earrings from our giveaway last week which was sponsored by LisasLovlies in New Hampshire. Congratulations Bunny, I'll be contacting you via Posh Mail to find out how we can get your fabulous new earrings to you.

Enter our weekly giveaway: This week, one lucky Posh Mama member will be selected using www.random.org to win the Hibiscus Pendant featured in today's article from our sponsor, HomeStudio in Palm Desert, CA. As a special gift, the HomeStudio shop will also be sending you a silver ball chain to go with it! To enter:

1. Go to my original blog post on the Posh Mama web site.

2. Leave a comment about your favorite pink piece in the Comments section of the original blog post.

The winner will be announced in next week's Friday Findings post.

Until next week, this is Capitola Girl wishing you a Happy Fourth of July weekend!

Thursday Thoughts: Happy Fourth!

Thursday Thoughts: Long Weekends and Summer Fun

My favorite weekend of the year has arrived, its the Fourth of July! I love the beach, I love seeing families get together and going out and about and enjoying each others com

pany, I love eating Pizza and Hot Dogs on the sand, and getting my feet wet on the beach. I love everything about this day, because it starts with a little-know local's event call the Aptos Fourth of July Parade. The town of Aptos shuts its streets for a day of fun-filled events. First, a big pancake breakfast and then the BIG parade. Yay!

Over the years, I've collected a bunch of cool photos of the event that I put together in a collage. I can't wait until after the weekend so I can show you more!

Happy Fourth!

Yay!! My DNS Resolved

Soooo excited to report that the DNS issue that was not allowing me to access the Etsy website has FINALLY cleared up! Is anyone else still experiencing issues?

At last!
Happy Tuesday!

More About Etsy DNS Issues

More About the Etsy DNS Issues

Well its July 1, which marks 5 days of having trouble accessing Etsy. Out of boredom and frustration, I decided to make some DNS changes on my computer. These changes were published as a use-at-your-own-risk recommendation by non-Etsy employees in the Comments section of the June 29 post on the Unofficial Etsy News blog.

In a nutshell, there are two workarounds floating around on the web that you may wish to try if you are still unable to access the Etsy site:

(1) Change your hosts file.
(2) Update the DNS settings on your network connection.

If you are like me, adding Etsy's IP address to the bottom of the Hosts file didn't work. So, the next workaround to try is one that you must use at your own risk. For information about these workarounds, visit the following link and read through the comments for instructions. Be sure to note that using this workaround has some risks:

http://etsynews.com/707/etsy-migration-to-new-data-center-may-cause-access-issues/?cp=all#comments

I'm relieved to have access to my shop, but since I had to change my local settings, I don't view this as anything but a temporary fix. It also doesn't address the issue that Etsy buyers also have this issue, and as an avid online shopper, I'm not one to be inclined to change my local computer settings

For the future, it would seem more than appropriate for Etsy to acknowledge that there is a need to notify paying customers about Data Centers moves in advance, especially when its a change that has the potential to disrupt services like this. I live in California, and everyone I know in my area cannot access the Etsy site. The one thing that we all share is the same Internet Service Provider.

Having worked in a position where it was my job to write communications to notify paying customers about the risks and potential of interruptions in network services, I'm miffed that I wasn't notified about such a major change in advance. But, so it goes. I suppose there is nothing else one can do but move on and accept that these things happen, and will eventually be resolved.

For those still having trouble accessing Etsy, the folks at Etsy also posted a Storque article yesterday, which I'm including here if you still can't access Etsy. If you're interested in reading the latest official response to the data center migration issues, here's what was said:

Title: Tech Update: Etsy DNS Issues
Author: Rokali
Published on June 30, 2008 in Etsy News

This is an update for everyone having trouble connecting to Etsy right now.

What happened?

This past Thursday we moved Etsy's DNS servers to our new datacenter. This is an important step in making sure the site can grow and scale.

This DNS move caused a ripple in some people's access to Etsy.com. By our estimates, 0.01% of traffic to Etsy is not resolving correctly. Still, we understand that for those affected, this is very disruptive. We wish there were an immediate resolution, but we don’t think it’s that’s simple.

Whenever a DNS change occurs, it needs to propagate through various ISPs around the entire world. This can take several days. In this particular case, a lookup error occurred, and this error was cached in many different places: an ISP's own DNS servers, your local router, and even on your computer itself.

What can we do?
Right now we're waiting for all the caches to clear out the error message. Until this happens, some people will be unable to reach Etsy.

There is a quick fix for this: you can change the DNS servers you use.

There are guides on the Web on how to do this, but please understand that this is something that Etsy cannot do for you (though we’re happy to answer your questions if you’d like to send them to support@etsy.com).

We've spent time investigating every nook and cranny, and this is where we're at right now. If we uncover anything else that can be helpful, we'll make sure to let you know.

Etsy DNS Changes

Venting About Etsy

OK. I haven't been able to get access to my Etsy shop since Friday morning. The folks at Etsy decided to move their servers to a new data center, and the DNS entries for the servers were changed. I understand the whole concept of updating DNS, and I get that one just has to wait as the changes are populated throughout the internet.

BUT...

I will say that their handling of this whole DNS change has been a big disappointment. First, a move of this nature was not announced in advance to Etsy sellers. There are some sellers who really depend on Etsy for their business.

Second, I've worked at networking companies doing corporate communications before and as a paying customer, not having access to my account because of a unannounced change is something that I am finding is pretty frustrating. Telling me its my ISP may be the technical explanation, but why was the data center move something we (as paying customers) were not told about in advance?

Lastly, after the unforseen result of the change was reported, why didn't Etsy notify its seller base to let them know about the issue? They do have our emails. This isn't just a seller issue, buyers have access problems too. Perhaps I'm just venting because I haven't been able to access my shop in going on five days, but as a customer, I'd like to see some improvements made with Etsy's customer communications related to its networking services. How about a network issues and outage page where we can go for information and updates about our Etsy service? Customer service and managing communications with your paying customers are an important thing. Come on Etsy!
